Lew McIntyre was born in Asheville, NC and graduated from Asheville Catholic High School. He was appointed to the U. S. Naval Academy from the Naval Reserve and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He earned a Master of Science degree, also in Aero, from the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He spent twenty years in the U. S. Navy, flying strategic communications missions in the EC-130 and other aircraft, retiring in 1990 as a commander. Following his Naval retirement, he continued to support strategic communications as a systems engineer until he retired from SAIC in 2020, to become a full-time writer.
Lewis McIntyre has published five books: Come, Follow Me, a Story of Pilate and Jesus, a religious fiction short story; The Eagle and the Dragon, a Novel of Rome and China and its sequel, A Gathering of Eagles, a Novel of Rome and Parthia, historical fiction set in the second century A. D.; Take Charge and Move Out, the Founding Fathers of TACAMO, a history of his Naval aviation community; and Riding on a Light Beam, Visualizing Relativity, a novel approach to Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity. He was never a physicist, but devoted fifty years of his off-duty time to gain a better understanding of the Special Theory.
He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the U. S. Naval Institute (USNI), National Maritime Historical Society (NMHS), the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT). Lew lives in La Plata, MD with his wife of four decades, Karen, and three cats. Lewis enjoys biking, running, amateur radio and hunting.
